description

In the classical period the Acropolis was the central city sanctuary and symbol of the Athenian democracy, in which artistic expression reached its peak in the 5th century B.C. The Acorpolis, the centre of gravity of Athens, narrates the turbulent history of the city throughout the centuries. This is the history we are going to descover togehter on this four-hour tour.

Ascending the western slope of the Acropolis hill we enjoy the splendid panoramic view of the city, the hills, the mountains and the sea. On the top we learn the history of the Propylaia, the Athena Nike Temple, the Erechtheion and the Parthenon, the most iconic monument of Athens. Then we walk down the northern slope of the hill and past the Areopagus hill we reach the old town Plaka. Walking past the Ancient Aagora, the Roman Agora, the Library of Hadrian, the Monastiraki square, neoclassical edifices, byzantine churches and Ottoman monuments we have an overview of the historical past of the city. In one of the numerous cafes of Plaka we can enjoy the famous Greek coffee. Our walking tour ends at the Syntagma square and the Greek Parliament with the Monument to the Unknown Soldier guarded by the "evzones" soldiers with their traditional costumes.
